When Should You Visit a Trauma Center?
It is not always easy to determine how serious an injury is. You should seek medical attention if you experience:
- severe pain or discomfort after a fall, blow, or accident
- swelling, bruising, or changes in the shape of the body, limb, or face
- inability to move a body part without pain or severe limitation of mobility
- bleeding, burns, or deep cuts
- general deterioration, dizziness, loss of consciousness, or a head or neck injury
Even if it seems like “just a minor injury,” the best course of action in a situation of uncertainty is to have the injury assessed by a medical professional.
What to Do Before Arriving at the Clinic
- Reassure the injured person and limit their movement
- If their condition does not allow them to move independently, use available means (a blanket, board, or stretcher) to transport them in a lying position
- Do not attempt to correct deformities or reposition injured areas yourself
- If there is severe bleeding, stop it by applying pressure to the wound with clean cloth
- Monitor the person’s breathing and level of consciousness, and call an ambulance if necessary
