Urology

Urology at MIRUM Clinic

Urology focuses on the health of the urinary system in both men and women, as well as the male reproductive system. A urologist assesses the condition of the kidneys, bladder, ureters, and prostate, diagnoses disorders, and helps prevent complications.

Seeing a specialist at an early stage can help prevent the development of complications, inflammatory processes, and potential chronic conditions in the future.

A urologist helps address the following conditions:

  • urinary tract and kidney infections
  • kidney and ureteral stones
  • inflammatory conditions of the bladder and prostate
  • urination problems and urinary incontinence
  • reproductive disorders in men

What to Expect During a Consultation

The consultation begins with questions about your symptoms, frequency of urination, pain, and previous medical conditions. The doctor examines the abdomen and lower back and, if necessary, assesses the external genital area and performs palpation. For men, a digital rectal examination of the prostate may be performed when indicated; for women, a genital examination is performed only when necessary.

For the examination, the patient removes their underwear while keeping their upper clothing on. The procedure is performed delicately and with full respect for the patient’s privacy.

If necessary, urine and blood tests, ultrasound, CT, or MRI may be recommended. Based on the results, the doctor develops an individual treatment and prevention plan.

Men are advised to empty their bowels, as the doctor may perform a digital prostate examination. It is also recommended to abstain from sexual intercourse and masturbation for 1–3 days before the consultation.

Women should also maintain good hygiene and, if possible, avoid using vaginal products such as suppositories or ointments immediately before the consultation to ensure accurate examination and test results.

What should I bring to the consultation?

Your passport and the results of any previous examinations or tests, if available.

How long does the appointment take?

Usually 30–50 minutes, depending on the complexity of the case and whether additional examinations are required.
