For men, a digital rectal examination of the prostate may be performed when indicated; for women, a genital examination is performed only when necessary.

For the examination, the patient removes their underwear while keeping their upper clothing on. The procedure is performed delicately and with full respect for the patient’s privacy.

If necessary, urine and blood tests, ultrasound, CT, or MRI may be recommended. Based on the results, the doctor develops an individual treatment and prevention plan.
